today is create your own quote day.i caught the leap years with joy and huishan at amk hub just now. and i really like the part with the series of love quotes on the chinese calendar. and then i suddenly wondered how did quotes come about. i'm not sure if i'm being stupid for not knowing, and i actually thought there are people who sits down all day thinking of smart, witty lines for a living. *insert: jw just called me and so i asked if he knows how quotes came about, he said he isnt really sure either. but, made a right guess that most were from poems, etc. so that makes me only half stupid, if i really am.
so anyway, i learnt from wiki, that:
A quotation is the repetition of one expression as part of another one, particularly when the quoted expression is well-known or explicitly attributed (as by
citation) to its original source.
A quotation can also refer to the repeated use of units of any other form of expression, especially parts of artistic works: elements of a
painting, scenes from a
movie or sections from a
musical composition.
Quotations are used for a variety of reasons:
to illuminate the meaning or to support the arguments of the work in which it is being quoted, or to provide direct information about the work being quoted (whether in order to discuss it, positively or negatively, to pay homage to the original work or
author, to make the user of the quotation seem well-read). Quotations are also commonly printed as a means of inspiration and to invoke philosophical thoughts from the reader.
then i thought, hmm i just quoted the above from wiki. but what do we call that, other than 'coping and pasting'?
maha. then i realised how stupid i was. i'm quoting! it's a quote! ......is it not? haha. i'm confused. i think i'll read back on this post and feel stupider.
anyway, in case one day we do get famous, why not think of a cool phrase so people can quote you next time!
so here's my quote:
habitual procrastinator will always kid themselves that they're born a last min worker; or that they could never have been able to accomplish it in the first place.
is it cool is it cool?? mahaha. ok, if you do quote me, you may correct any grammar error and 'vocabulize' it for me.
oh i've another:
the reason of any woman blowing her top may be that she really does have a sound reason, or may conveniently be blamed by men for
that time of their month; either way, she always wins.
ahh. i dunno if i'm making sense but these were said (by me of cos) during a 'thrash-it-all' session with seb; and i feel pretty smart about them.
anyway, i particularly like this quote from the movie:
“If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life.” - oscar wilde.
i actually went to read up on most of his quotes, and i like his barbed wit! oh and i learnt that he may have been a bisexual. it's from wikipedia, dont say i crapped, kian!
photos from dates with joy will be up as soon as she sends me. grrr.
